When I first applied to private equity internships, I expected little dynamism—just industry reports and basic modeling. I joined Caprae Capital Partners because I hoped that working with a firm led by entrepreneurs might be different. Within months, I found myself sourcing billionaire family offices and leading seller and investor outreach, backed by writing a dozen detailed research reports that sharpened my understanding of Caprae’s investment thesis.

The highlight of my experience was working directly with Kevin on sourcing at trade shows in Chicago, London, and Frankfurt. His leadership is rooted in an unwavering commitment to those who show real hunger. The more I invested in the work, the more responsibility and trust I earned. Seeing him start his day at 2 AM with relentless passion inspired me to push harder myself.

What impressed me most was hearing Kevin engage sellers with vision and authenticity. Even compared to conversations I’ve had with Fortune 500 executives and Wall Street investors, his ability to connect was unmatched. My time at Caprae not only advanced my career in private equity and deal negotiation but also gave me a front-row view of the drive and vision required to build a truly great company.

Caprae was run with a level of operational efficiency I hadn’t seen before, thanks to Kevin and the team constantly refining processes. Even though we worked remotely, there were weekly meetings to review results, update deals, and train new interns, plus regional events and social hours that built genuine connections. Departments were structured around outreach, lead generation, research, and finance, with senior interns managing teams. This system allowed us to send 500+ personalized emails weekly, generate hundreds of leads, and book 5–10+ founder meetings a week—far above industry norms.

I interned at Caprae for about 9–10 months, overlapping with a full-time role at another firm. Looking back, I can honestly say I learned more here than in any other work experience. Kevin structures the program to reward top performers with more responsibility, which accelerates both personal growth and Caprae’s own development. For example, one co-founder even built an intern management system to track assignments automatically, and recruiting quickly scaled to hundreds of applicants per cycle.

Despite fluctuating between 20–40 interns, Caprae ran more efficiently than larger companies I’ve worked at with thousands of employees. There was no politics or busywork—only accountability, ownership, and opportunities for those who showed initiative. Beyond sourcing leads or drafting LOIs, I learned how to think about running a fund, how to meet with business owners, and how to lead a team. Many interns, myself included, have said Caprae was their favorite work experience—something rare among students and young professionals. That speaks volumes about the culture and the impact of this program.

I started my internship at Caprae  in May 2021, the

main reason I wanted to join Caprae was to get familiar with the private equity and search fund space. Lacking experience in this field of work, I found Caprae to be an opportunity that incorporates my missing experience in the said field, aiding in my growth and development. When I started working in the research department, the team was still tackling deal 18. As of today, we are at deal 124, which really shows the milestones that the Caprae team has overcame and the number of companies and industries that were dealt with in a matter of months. One of the skills that Ilearned in Caprae  is how to look at things from the investor’s point of view and put myself in their position. Another skill that I gained over this course of time is that of multi-tasking and paying attention to details. This adds to my repertoire of skills which are essential on a day-to-day basis. Adding to that, I got the advantageous opportunity of working in every department at Caprae in a simultaneous manner. Thus, time management and increased concentration were crucial skills that I was able to develop throughout my journey. All these skills acted, and still are acting, as an added value to my daily life as well as my career life. Caprae had many breakthroughs in the search fund space, such as having an international team (me being part of that), doing mockups and prototypes, having up to 39 interns at the same time, etc. Caprae has been smooth sailing ever since the very beginning. At the start, its members were just generating leads, but now, Caprae is composed of around 5 departments, each specialized in tackling different tasks. This comes as proof as to how much successes Caprae has been witnessing ever since its start; and with the efforts that its members are presenting, a bright future for Capre is expected to ensue

This experience has been one of the most valuable parts of my college journey so far. I had the opportunity to work on projects like building a Confidential Information Memorandum research paper, reviewing and personalizing over 150 client communications, analyzing 250+ handbooks each week to strengthen recruitment, and creating LeadGen reports to highlight new investment opportunities. Toward the end of my internship, I also joined the recruitment team, where I gained valuable insight into the internal hiring process. These responsibilities gave me a real look into how finance and strategy intersect, and helped me grow both my technical and professional skills.

More importantly, I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible people along the way. A special thank you to Kevin Hong for being such a supportive mentor where your guidance in business writing and thoughtful advice will stay with me throughout my career in finance. I also truly appreciated the opportunity to work with Ka Ming Li (Kamas), Jack Hu, Zackary Beckham, and Jamie Zhang, who made training and collaborating across different departments such a valuable experience.

These past 4 months have been a wonderful experience, and I am grateful to have been part of a firm making such a positive impact on the finance industry. I have learned so much here and believe something special is being built at Caprae that is more modern than any other PE firm I have seen. I’ve received great feedback on identifying quality leads and, more importantly, improved my writing to clients and business owners.

I’ve had numerous opportunities to learn during this program, but even more valuable has been what I’ve unlearned. Coming into Caprae, I had a narrow view of private equity. Over the past nine months, I learned to challenge assumptions—understanding why a seemingly “perfect” company might be rejected and why another with hidden potential could be a strong investment. Kevin’s ability to explain the growth rationale behind these decisions taught me to think forward and identify trends that shape the future.

This internship also gave me the chance to lead. After writing and reviewing nearly 60 industry and product reports, I built the confidence to guide a team and deepen my expertise. That experience has already helped me secure offers in the PE space as a research analyst.

Perhaps the most striking part of my time at Caprae was watching the firm’s rapid growth. I joined when the company was just beginning operations, and within months it had grown to over 120 deals. Experiencing that firsthand showed me how effective management, communication, and focus can scale an organization quickly.

This internship has been far from typical. It’s given me practical skills, leadership experience, and perspective on how disruptive finance and entrepreneurship really work. It has been one of the most impactful experiences of my career journey so far.

What makes Caprae Capital stand out is its forward-thinking mindset and its willingness to engage critically with the evolving landscape of private equity. Rather than following a traditional path, the firm actively explores new ideas and models that aim to create long-term value with greater intentionality. Being part of a team that doesn’t shy away from asking tough questions about the industry has been both refreshing and thought-provoking.

Over the course of this experience, I didn’t just learn how to do the job, I learned how to think critically, communicate professionally, take on responsibility, and adapt quickly in fast-paced environments. I’m especially thankful for the chance to collaborate with a globally diverse team and to grow both personally and professionally.

This internship has also given me the chance to reflect on myself—deepening my understanding of work environments, leadership styles, and company dynamics, which has been especially meaningful as someone still early in my journey into the business world.

With an unconventional background—from living in a van to becoming a successful entrepreneur—he brings a rare perspective grounded in management skills, tenacity, and compassion.

Kevin’s management skills are unmatched. He leads an international team of interns and professionals with minimal meetings, yet always makes time for mentorship and explains complex concepts in simple terms. His tenacity shows in the way he reviews work personally before deal meetings, which has resulted in exceptional deal flow in a short period.

Equally important is Kevin’s compassion. He gives interns opportunities to attend industry trade shows and fosters an environment of transparency, respect, and pride. At Caprae, Kevin doesn’t just lead from above — he leads from within — and that’s what makes the experience so impactful.

I’m proud and grateful to share that I’ve completed my 12-week internship at Caprae Capital Partners as a Private Equity Intern.

This internship was more than just an opportunity to build skills. It became my first real step into private equity as an asset class and a place where I started to understand how businesses are evaluated, structured, and grown. I worked on projects ranging from email strategy and lead generation to market research, cold calls, and financial modeling, each of which gave me a better view of how capital, strategy, and operations fit together.

What stood out most at Caprae was the culture of critical thinking. The team is willing to question the way private equity has traditionally been done and to explore new models that prioritize long-term value. Being part of those conversations taught me to look deeper at company dynamics, leadership styles, and the factors that make investing sustainable.

Over these 12 weeks, I learned how to think more critically, communicate more effectively, and take responsibility in a fast-paced environment. I also gained a much stronger foundation in business, not just in technical skills but in how strategy, people, and discipline come together to create value.

This experience has been both professional and personal growth for me. It gave me the chance to see private equity in practice, not just in theory, and to reflect on how I want to shape my own career in finance moving forward.

After six rewarding months, my internship at Caprae Capital Partners has come to an end.

I had the opportunity to work on multiple live transactions from initial evaluation through to execution. I actively contributed to the due diligence process by conducting detailed financial analysis, evaluating key risks and opportunities, performing market and competitor research while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure thorough assessment and support execution.

These experiences strengthened my ability to make informed investment decisions through rigorous deal, company and market evaluation, while deepening my understanding of private equity, the search fund model and the broader finance and investing landscape.

After an incredibly rewarding few months, I’ve completed my internship with Caprae Capital Partners. I’m thankful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute alongside such a talented and entrepreneurial team.

During my time at Caprae, I had the chance to dive deep into the world of private equity – sourcing potential investments, analyzing market fragmentation and trends, and building investment theses for high-potential opportunities. I also helped lead an internal AI strategy initiative, producing investor-facing media to strengthen firm branding and LP engagement.

I am grateful to share that I’ve concluded my summer internship at Caprae Capital Partners.

Caprae provided true hands-on experience from day one. Over the past three months, I supported live deal sourcing, conducted market research across multiple industries, analyzed financials, and contributed to internal deal processes. The pace was fast, the expectations were high, and the work pushed me to think more critically, operate with precision, and take full ownership. It was demanding, but that’s exactly what made it rewarding.

What stood out most was the culture. Caprae runs lean and expects you to think clearly, move fast, and deliver without excuses. Feedback was direct and constant, which forced me to raise my standards early. I came in thinking I knew how to work hard and think critically, I left with a much sharper understanding of what that actually means in a real investing environment.

Kevin Hong and Jamie Zhang, I extend my sincere thanks for your mentorship and guidance. You set the tone early, gave honest feedback, and carved out time to teach when you didn’t have to.

I learned so much from the entire Caprae team, and I plan to build upon this experience you provided me and carry it forward.

Caprae has by far been my most unique and captivating experience so far during my undergrad, and I can confidently say that Kevin Hong's Sunday speeches about level 1&2 geniuses, along with industry disruptors, will be things I remember 10 and even 20 years down the line. I'd also like to thank Zackary Beckham Jamie Zhang for their guidance and support on all of my deliverables throughout the term. Although my time with Caprae is coming to a close, I will definitely stay up to date with Caprae's ongoing initiatives they're posting about on LinkedIn. From April to August 2025, I had the opportunity to join Caprae Capital Partners as a Full Stack Developer Intern.

During this time, I learned a great deal and was deeply involved in backend development, database architecture, API integrations, and data pipeline design.

A special thanks to Ukant Jadia, my trusted partner in tackling database and backend challenges, whether it was debugging, optimizing queries, or designing efficient solutions.

I also truly appreciate Ukant Jadia, along with Muhammad Rafi Syafrinaldi, Yash Jagdale, Jethro Lim, Shreeharini S, and Ridhun ks, for working side-by-side, sharing knowledge, and offering valuable feedback throughout this journey.

This experience not only strengthened my technical skills in Python and PostgreSQL, but also sharpened my problem-solving, communication, and adaptability in a fast-paced startup environment.

Getting hands-on with deal sourcing, stepping out of my comfort zone with cold calls, and speaking directly with business owners has been an experience I’ll carry forward. For me, a standout experience was my data science work on the East Asian business classification project. This project has been a vital learning experience, applying practical data science tools to real-world business challenges and I’m grateful to have been able to help [Client] advance his investment thesis through this data-driven approach. Through this project I was able to build an automated pipeline leveraging Machine Learning techniques to classify Korean and other Asian-owned businesses with strong accuracy, enriching wide datasets, and integrating industry data for actionable client insights. To me, I genuinely believe that machine learning is the future for Caprae and I'm grateful to @Kevin Hong for recognizing its potential during our presentation - I can't wait to see how Caprae succeeds and implements ML in the future!

I’m especially grateful for the chance to serve as a mentor intern on the [Client]research project—helping build a multi-source data pipeline for East Asian–owned small businesses, developing a surname-based ML model to classify owners’ ethnicity with ~80–85% accuracy, and normalising/enriching 50k+ business records across major cities. That project was a real highlight and an invaluable learning experience for me.

Since joining in late July, I've grown tremendously through every experience, whether it was lead generation that taught me patience with repetitive tasks and sometimes with some extremely difficult leads to find, researching unfamiliar sectors, contributing to the QA team, or cold calling and dialing countless numbers without a single pickup. Those cold call sessions with you, @Azhar / Zen and @Jamie Zhang, were particularly valuable. What Caprae is building is truly unique and will undoubtedly disrupt the Private Equity industry, creating a comprehensive database for all M&A deals, including the impressive Saasquatch leads work by @Zackary Beckham.

Being promoted to mentor intern and helping others who were once in my position has been an honorable achievement. I've thoroughly enjoyed these past few months and learned immensely under @Kevin Hong's leadership. I'm thankful to have been part of the financial revolution Caprae is leading.

The long days and late nights on Wickdale were genuinely some of my favorite moments, and I’m grateful for the friendships and teamwork that came from it. You always took the time to guide me in the right direction, and that made a huge difference in my learning.

I am deeply grateful for the time, trust, and relationships I was given here, and this is an experience I will carry with me for a long time.

What stayed with me most is the importance of story over numbers ( or business over pure finance). Paying attention to expenses, vendor relationships, and patterns of spend is often how you understand what a business truly is, not just how it reports.

I was equally inspired by the focus on the human side of investing. Motivating owners and aligning teams to do the right thing remains essential, especially as tools and automation continue to accelerate execution. Judgment, trust, and incentives still matter deeply.

I also valued seeing how operators step in to create momentum. Business development, communication, and selling are not separate from investing. They are often how value is created in practice.

This experience shaped how I want to operate going forward. With an entrepreneurial mindset, a bias toward action, and a willingness to build alongside others. Private investing feels less like observing from the outside and more like moving forward together.

Although my time at Caprae has not been the longest, it has been one of the most educational and fulfilling internships I have had. I learned to approach lead generation more strategically by working across different industries, geographies, markets, and company sizes, and I became much more comfortable communicating with founders and business owners through cold calling.
